January 2005 NewsletterWashington County Memorial Hospital would like to wish everyone a very happy and prosperous new year! Our hospital continues to undergo the major construction and renovation project with changes visible daily. You can access some of the construction pictures on the home page of this website. Saturday, January 15th, was a significant day for the hospital's construction and renovation project. The source of backup emergency power for the entire present and future hospital is now the hospital's newer, more powerful generator. Prior to a conversion completed Saturday, the backup power source for much of the hospital's inpatient areas, the lab, the kitchen, and other areas was a very old generator, while the new generator only supplied the present emergency room and radiology. Backup emergency power issues have presented plenty of problems, expense, and risk in recent years. This conversion Saturday required not only technical expertise but careful planning and was completed within a few hours. This was a very important improvement for the future of our hospital. The hospital began a program on January 18, 2005 in cooperation with Central Ozarks Private Industry Council (COPIC) and Potosi Public Schools through which a small number (three to begin) of special education students from Potosi will receive work experiences at the hospital, with wages paid by COPIC. The program runs through the end of this school year. Hospital departments participating at this time will be Housekeeping, Maintenance, and Radiology. Personnel Manager Hopie Jenkins deserves credit for helping coordinate the establishment of this program here. |
