July 2004

Washington County Memorial Hospital gave Dr. Yap a farewell luncheon at the Hospital on Friday, July 2.  We certainly wish Dr. Yap success in his future endeavors.

Washington County Memorial Hospital is proud to announce that employee Tammy Reed is now a Registered Respiratory Therapist.  Ms. Reed worked hard to achieve this registry, attending school for a year and passing written and clinical simulation tests.  Congratulations Tammy!

John Listerman, M.D., a Family Practitioner, has been engaged to begin some interim physician staffing support for Austin Plaza Primary Care on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 .  He was available to see patients in the office the remainder of that week and provided hospitalist coverage the weekend of July 9-11 at the hospital. Dr. Listerman also staffed 2 more weeks July 19-30 and will continue on a regular part-time basis.

Many positive comments have been received regarding the Memorial Garden Service for former Board Chairman Don Litton held Friday morning, June 4th.  The granite bench presented that day has been relocated outside the hospital’s Administration building.

The third annual WCMH Managers’ Retreat was held Tuesday, April 6th, at the Sayersbrook Bison Ranch. The previous two retreats had been held at YMCA of the Ozarks. Topics included a motivational presentation and a planning session, and in between was a tour of the ranch and a presentation on the history of the ranch.

Planning continues for the Hospital’s major Renovation/Construction Project. The week of July 12th, Washington County Memorial Hospital will begin a phase of a renovation and expansion project which will improve and expand the Emergency Department, Specialty Clinics Department, front lobby and waiting areas, Sleep Disorders Center, general infrastructure, patient corridors, and parking and public access.  During this 18-month project some patient flow and public access will be altered.  It is expected that beginning Thursday, July 15, the road from Memorial Drive (next to Wal-Mart) which is earmarked at this time for incoming emergency access, will be closed for a period of two to three weeks. During that period all incoming traffic will have to enter from Health Way from the North (by Hardees).  The Hospital asks the public to excuse any inconvenience and help heed temporary signage directing traffic during the construction process.

Washington County Memorial Hospital held a Groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 for its new renovation and construction project.  The Groundbreaking was well attended by hospital employees, city officials, hospital board members, chamber of commerce, and other community members.
