NOVEMBER 2000 Protect Yourself: Flu Season Is Straight Ahead Each winter, flu sweeps the country, killing an average of 20,000 Americans and hospitalizing 100,000 more. Because the influenza virus changes from year to year, it is important to get a flu vaccination each fall. Previously, the Amercian Association of Family Physicians recommended that only those over 65 years of age receive the vaccine annually. They now say that everyone over 6 months old should consider getting a flu shot. The best time to be vaccinated is between October and mid-November. Source: Todays Health Outlook 2000
