November 2004 Newsletter
The steel beams arrived on the WCMH construction site and began being put in place on Friday, November 12th. As of 11-16-04, the skeleton of the new construction is in place and visible from the highway and beyond. The concrete slab under the new building is scheduled to be poured Monday, November 22nd. The new exterior entrance and connecting corridor at Health Way Primary Care is now essentially complete. The new Radiographic and Fluoroscopic Room and equipment are now in use. The basic radiographic room is being prepared for the removal of that existing equipment Friday, November 19th. That room will then be prepared for the installation of the new radiographic equipment. WCMH voluntarily submits quality measurement performance indicators to the Missouri Hospital Association and to the centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and this data is becoming publicly available. In most cases, WCMH compares very favorably against other hospitals. So far WCMH is beginning to use the data constructively to improve our processes and documented patient care outcomes. The hospital is very pleased and proud to announce that it has been awarded grant funding from the Missouri Foundation for Health to support a project titled "Washington County Memorial Hospital Digital Imaging Project". The project will involve the acquisition and installation of equipment for a Picture Archive Communication System (PACS) for the hospital's Radiological Services. The hospital's medical imaging of CT scans, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, x-rays, and fluoroscopy will soon be completely digital and computer archived rather than on films. The sharp digital images will then become accessible almost instantly to physicians through secured internet-based technology, and will improve and expedite clinical decision making. In cases in which a patient now has to physically transport bulky and heavy x-ray films to an out-of-town specialist, in the future the patient will only have to transport a standard computer disc (CD). More information will be forthcoming on this exciting advancement. Washington County Memorial would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving! |
