October 2005 Newsletter1) Mr. Duncan reported that Director of Nursing, Cyndi Basler, has been elected President of the Advisory Board of the Mineral Area college School of Allied health Programs. It is an honor for her and will also be of benefit to our hospital to have such representation and input with the health professions faculty and students.
2) The hospital’s construction and renovation is progressing rapidly but is at the stage of maximum internal ugliness due to floors, walls, and ceilings being stripped before restoration. Sheet rock is now being hung in ER Phase 2 and the Lab Renovation Phase 1. The lab is scheduled to move into the back half of the new lab the week of November 14 and then the current lab area will be renovated. New flooring in all the main corridors should start approximately November 10. A new rooftop heating and air conditioning unit for the nursing station and south wing will be installed next week. The entire project is scheduled for completion January 10.
3) Nadia Hanna, M.D. has been granted a J-1 Visa waiver by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to begin family practice in Potosi in 2006. This is a technicality required by the Immigration and Naturalization Service. Dr. Hanna was granted one of 30 waivers authorized for physicians for Missouri. According to John Guest, the attorney retained by WCMH to assist in this process, there were over 500 applications for the 30 Missouri waivers. Dr. Hanna called the hospital on Friday, October 14th to express her elation and thanks and indicate how much she is looking forward to coming here. |
