October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Washington County Memorial Hospital is offering our annual specially priced mammography program.  For the entire month of October Mammogram screenings will only be $50.00.  Call 573-438-5451 ext. 204 to schedule an appointment or for more information.

Washington County Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce the acquisition of new mammography equipment for their Women’s Wellness Department.  This equipment was selected with two key issues in mind:

Patient Comfort:  The thoughtful design of the new equipment should reduce patient anxiety regarding mammography.  The compact form of the unit, with rounded edges and digressive compression, provides a substantially more comfortable patient experience.  It also has a unique feature to help maintain hygiene with each exam: a disposable radiolucent sheet is provided to ensure each patient a clean surface for the sensitive breast tissue.

Quality of Examination:  The unique innovations of the new mammography unit increase the chances of very early lesion detection.  An example of this is the ability to visualize at least 10% more breast tissue along the chest wall, where statistics have shown a high percentage of cancers are found.  Washington County Memorial Hospital has also purchased a dedicated mammography processor designed to reduce the incidence of image artifacts that may obstruct the visualization of small nodules or masses.

All of this new equipment will be operational as we begin Breast Cancer Awareness month.  Any patient who meets the American Cancer Society guidelines may call the Radiology Department of Washington County Memorial Hospital (573-438-5451, ext. 204) for an appointment without a physician’s order.  The guidelines are: Any female over the age of 35 years should have a baseline exam; all females over the age of 40 years should have an exam at least every 2 years; and patients with a family history of breast cancer and over the age of 40 years should have a mammogram yearly.
